And so then the ‘Rents Meet

Mathew’s grey eyes lifted from where he was observing the boy, Carlos, to the child’s mother. Despite his usual blank expression, he nodded pleasantly in acknowledgement and stood up. He contemplated on offering his hand, but promptly chucked the idea.

“Oliver.” He called out.

Oliver, who had been regaling her friend with a tale about the vase she was holding -“I swear it was haunted by some evil lady!”- stopped abruptly and looked up. Mathew motioned to the room in the back with his head, causing her to nod in understanding.

Turning to their guests, Oliver grinned.

“Righto! This way please! More privacy in the back room. We got tea and water and juice set up, and some little sandwiches too!”

As he walked by the taller woman to lock the shop doors, he paused awkwardly as he realized he never responded to her with words. Looking at the blonde he nodded his head.

“You’re welcome here.” He said, almost as an after thought.

Carlos was quick to jump up and follow Ollie, “No way! Why would some lady haunt a dusty old vase?” Amelia smiled at the retreating back of her hyperactive son and followed after the other parent. She didn’t feel like there was any danger to be had and Carlos looked happy for once. She sat on a couch beside Carlos and watched as her son grabbed juice and nibbled on the sandwich in his hand.

He looked up after he swallowed some food and smiled at Ollie, “Hey where’s the other kid? I want to meet them”. He was bouncing were he sat with pure joy and impatience, he wanted to meet the new meta. Though he didn’t know why Ollie wanted his mom to come, he hoped it wasn’t just to spill the beans about the watch. Amelia looked at her son with a questioning look and then looked back at Ollie and her parent.

Mathew blinked, looking at Carlos for a second before turning to his own ward with a frown. Oliver just looked at him with an abashed face before turning to Carlos and his mother. Glancing back at Mathew, who just quirked any eyebrow, she looked back to the guests and grinned almost shyly.

"Uhm… Actually, about that. I am the other meta child.” She said.

Ink bled from inside her sleeves to swirl in her hands. Touching a nearby vase with her thumb, she lifted it up.

"I have uhm, Magic I guess? No, uhm, more like, spiritual energy? I can only channel it through seals, and I’m still just learning."

With a shrug she set the vase back down and looked at the two guests.

"I tend to use the sticky seal a lot." There was an awkward pause here. "So, any questions?"

Mathew ran through his inventory list as he sat behind his shop’s counter. Oliver sat nearby on a stool, swinging her legs as she babbled about a garage her friend’s mom worked at. The antique shop was otherwise quiet, inside and out. Nestled in the nicer side of the River district, security guards meandering around outside to preserve the historic site from miscreants, the shop fit right in with the historic atmosphere of the area.

Checking off the last few items on the list, he took note of the figures approaching his shop. Oliver was already off her stool, opening the door to wave outside.

Amelia was looking around the old historical part the city that they were walking through. She kept having to grab Carlos to make sure he didn’t run off too far, else he cause some kind of trouble. He was spouting off about meeting Ollie at her place and that he couldn’t wait for all the fun they could have. When they turned a corner she watched her son run up toward a shop where another kid was waving out to them.

When they got into the store she looked around at some of the old stuff. She liked the calm feel of the store even if it felt a bit crowded to her. When she heard her son call for her, she walked over to where he was at and waved at the man behind the counter. She felt awkward near him and had a weird sense of deja vu but shook it off as she smiled at the man, “‘heya, thanks for having us over.”
